My wonderful wife recently surprised me with a new Hornby HST in original BR blue livery for my birthday, which I have to say is a superb model. I think we’ll have to move now so I can build a much larger layout! It prompted me to dig out two more of my very poor 110 shots from my childhood. Both shots are taken from the end of one of Paddington’s busy platforms, coincidentally in almost the exact same spot where I stood with my son Oliver nearly 30 years on watching First Great Western HSTs!

This rather run down Super BG full brake with Royal mail logo was snapped in a siding at Bristol Parkway in May 2008. Though Bachmann currently do a quite nice version of something similar it’s bit too recent to run on South Oak Road. Very tempting to stray into more recent times, those side roller doors would really weather up a treat!

The new double tunnel get the all clear from my son Oliver (aged 18 months at the time). His other interests currently include bananas, lego and diggers.

A few snaps taken in 1981 from the end of one of Euston’s platforms. Aged 11 and armed with a Kodak instamatic 110mm camera and a Day Rover ticket, my friend and I spent many happy hours travelling around London.

A couple more images from the same year, this time at the sidings adjacent to Ashford station. Several other shots were taken at the time but unfortunately no others are worth publishing due to the fact that subject barely made it into frame!

47081 ‘Odin’ departing from Didcot (?) station. For no other reason than sentimentally I am currently modifying a Heljan 47 to represent this locomotive.
